My photographs pay tribute to George Hurrell and Old Hollywood. I particularly enjoy taking portraits that seem to make old fashioned movie stars out of contemporary, everyday people. I am more interested in having people play dress up with their identities than using a camera as an instrument to record who someone appears to be in everyday life. I think how they 'dress up' and 'play act' can be far more revealing.
In 2007, I carried over this sensibility to film with a feature debut called 'Murderess', which utilized vintage marionette puppets to convey the real-life story of Winnie Ruth Judd, Phoenix's infamous 'Trunk Murderess' who killed her two best friends in 1931.
My interest in puppets, mannequins and dolls is also evident in my examinations of vintage Barbie dolls.
I also sing and write music, having fronted the popular New-York pop-a-go-go band 'Koo-Koo Boy' for 6 years. Our regional 'hits' included the songs, 'I'm a Monster' and 'Vampire Girls'. In L.A. I comprised half of the Bear-duo 'Lafro'.
